ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of games against Cedar Crest College on Monday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 4-2 and 6-4.
In game one,
Kara Grogan had two hits, including a three-run homerun, and scored two runs.
Marisa Giordano had a hit and scored a run. The Knights combined for five walks.
Lauren Wilkie started in the circle and pitched a complete game, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits and striking out eight to pick up her fourth win.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the third, but the Knights answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a homerun by Grogan. With one out,
Melissa Rozumalski walked and Giordano singled to lead to Grogan's homerun that hit off of the foul pole.
Cedar Crest added another run in the sixth to come to within one run of the Knights. In the bottom of the sixth,
Sarah Murray walked with bases loaded to bring home Grogan and seal the 4-2 win for the Knights.
In game two, the Knights jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after two innings as Neumann batted around in the first and send eight batters to the plate in the second.
Becky Guinto hit a two-run homerun in the second inning.
Cedar Crest put a run on the board in the third inning and then stayed in the game as it capitalized on some Neumann errors to add two unearned runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Michaela Pembleton started the game and went 4.0 innings for her third win of the season. She allowed one run on six hits and struck out two.
Taylor Naman went 2.0 innings and allowed three unearned runs on three hits and struck out a pair. Wilkie picked her second save by shutting down the Falcons in the seventh inning.
Neumann (15-11, 12-0 CSAC) will head to Immaculata tomorrow afternoon for a CSAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
