IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team continued to roll in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Tuesday afternoon by sweeping the doubleheader at Immaculata University. Game scores were 12-1 and 14-0, both in five innings.
In game one, Neumann got on the board in the third inning when
Melissa Rozumalski hit a solo homerun to left field. With two outs,
Becky Guinto doubled in
Kara Grogan for a 2-0 lead.
The Knights added six runs in the fourth inning as the first seven batter reached base and 11 Knights came to the plate in the inning. In the fifth inning, Guinto hit a two-run double to score Rozumalski and
Marisa Giordano.
Jackie Schneider followed with a two-run double to score Grogan and Guinto.
The Mighty Macs scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Lauren Wilkie pitched a complete game for her fifth win of the season. She allowed one run on eight hits and struck out one.
In the second game, the Knights had 16 knocks and scored at least a run in each inning. With two outs in the first,
Julia Cox,
Danielle Grayson and Schneider hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to put Neumann on the board. The Knights put two more runs on the board in the second for an early 5-0 lead.
Neumann exploded for seven runs in the third inning. Grayson and Giordano each hit a two-run single in the inning. The Knights added a run in the fourth and another in the fifth for the 14-0 final.
Haley Broomell went the distance for her seventh win of the season. She allowed just four hits and struck out three.
Neumann (17-11, 14-0 CSAC) will host Marywood on Friday afternoon for more CSAC action beginning at 3:00 PM.
