Knights Sweep Gators to Open CSAC Action

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept Notre Dame College of Maryland on Tuesday afternoon as it opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. Game scores were 9-0 and 16-0, both in five innings in the home opener.
 
In game one, the Knights had 12 hits in the 9-0 win. Melissa Rozumalski went 2-for 3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Jewell Ringgold and Melissa Bond each went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Mary Cotton was 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Becky Guinto hit a solo homerun. Julia Cox had a double and two RBI.
 
Haley Broomell pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out 10.
 
Neumann got on the board in the first when Ringgold scored on an error. The Knights added two runs in the second. Rozumalski's triple scored Cotton and then she scored on a failed pickoff attempt. Guinto gave Neumann a 4-0 lead in the third with a solo homerun to left. Rozumalski singled in a run for a 5-0 lead.
 
The Knights ended the game with four runs in the fifth, capped by a two-run double by Cox.
 
In game two, the Knights combined for 20 hits. Rozumalski had three hits, including a triple, three RBI and a run scored. Danielle Grayson went 2-for-2 with a three-run homerun. Julia Malseed had two hits and two RBI.
 
Lauren Wilkie pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just one hit with two outs in the fifth inning, and striking out six.
 
The Knights came out swinging in the first and placed eight runs. Already leading 1-0 in the first, Grayson hit a three run homerun to give Neumann a four run advantage. The Knights would add four additional runs in the first to take an 8-0 lead.
 
Neumann added three runs in the second on a RBI single by Jackie Schneider, a two-run triple by Rozumalski, and an RBI single by Kara Grogan.
 
RBI singles by Malseed, Jess Dicken, and Rozumalski in the fourth secured the 16-0 win for the Knights.
 
Neumann (5-11, 2-0 CSAC) will travel to Keystone College for a pair of conference games on Friday. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
