Softball Takes two from Giants

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of road Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games at Keystone on Friday afternoon. Games scores were 19-3 and 10-2, both in five innings.
 
In the first game, Kara Grogan and Jackie Schneider each had three hits as the Knights pounded out 16 total. Melissa Bond and Melissa Rozumalski each hit a pair. Danielle Grayson hit a grand slam. Becky Guinto knocked in three runs.
 
Haley Broomell started the game and went 4.1 innings for the win. She allowed three runs on five hits and struck out a pair. Michaela Pembleton finished out the game, going 0.2 innings and struck out one.
 
The Knights opened the game with two singles. With one out, and Guinto reaching on an error to load the bases, Grayson knocked the ball out of the park for a 4-0 Knights lead. In the second inning, Guinto had a two-run single as Neumann plated three runs.
 
Rozumalski had a two-run single in the third as the Knights put six runs across the plate for a 13-0 lead. Schneider hit a two-run triple in the fifth as Neumann scored six more runs for their 19 runs.
 
Keystone scored its three runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 19-3 final.
 
In game two, Neumann used a seven inning fifth inning to seal the win. Sarah Murray hit a two-run single. Bond smacked a two-run triple in the inning.
 
Earlier in the game, Neumann put two runs on the board in the third innings for a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. The Giants got one runs back in the bottom of the inning. Murray led off the fourth inning with a walk and came around to score on a single by Bond.
 
Pembleton started the game and went four innings for her first collegiate win. She allowed one run on two hits. Taylor Naman pitched the fifth inning and struck out two.
 
Neumann (7-11, 4-0 CSAC) will host Cedar Crest tomorrow for another pair of conference games. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
