ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team blanked Penn State Abington 1-0 to open the 2016 campaign on Thursday evening.
 
Grace Stauffer netted her first collegiate goal in the 33^rd minute to put the Knights on the board. After a corner kick by the Nittany Lions, the Knights came down the field. Summer Sides shot the ball towards the net that the Nittany Lion keeper knocked away. Stauffer was able to get the direct rebound and put the ball in the back of the net.
 
In the 79^th minute, Stauffer had a shot saved by Penn State. Lexi Casper got the rebound and put the ball just wide. In the 86^th minute, Casper had her shot hit the crossbar as Neumann tried to add to its lead.
 
As time was winding down, the Nittany Lions put some pressure on and in the 88^th minute, put the ball past the reach of Neumann keeper Anna Attardi. However, the shot went just wide for the Knights to keep the 1-0 lead.
 
Attardi made five saves in net en route to her first collegiate win and shutout. The Knights outshot the Nittany Lions 17-7, led by Casper with five shots.
 
Neumann (1-0) will continue home action on Tuesday when it hosts Wesley College beginning at 7:00 PM.
