Neumann Women's Soccer Prevails in Overtime

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team picked up its second win in as many games with a 2-1 overtime victory against Wesley College on Tuesday evening.

Jamie King had a goal and an assist in the game. Kahlyn Ford buried the game winner in the 92nd minute.

Last season it took Neumann 14 games to get its second win of the season. This year it took just two.

Neumann opened the scoring early in the first half, as King finished off a beautiful sequence of passing that led the Knights down the field in the 14th minute of play.  The goal was assisted by Danni Elman, who registered her first collegiate point on the play. The first half would see both teams garner several more chances, but the Knights remained in front 1-0 at the break.

The second half would continue much the same as the first. Both teams had a few early chances before Wesley found the back of the net in the 62nd minute to deadlock the game at 1-1. The teams traded even more chances after the Wolverines goal, but extra time would be needed to decide the game.

The Knights came out flying in the extra session, gaining a corner just over two minutes into overtime. Senior Lexi Casper sent a nice ball into the box and a scrum ensued in front of the net. Amidst the chaos, King found Ford, who buried the ball into the back of the net to win the game for Neumann.

The game finished with both teams generating 16 shots apiece.  Neumann keeper Anna Attardi finished the match with six saves in goal for the Knights to pick up her second win in as many games.

Neumann (2-0) will next take the field on Saturday, September 10th as they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Kick-off for the match is slated for 1:00 PM.
