ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team dropped a hard fought non-conference match to Eastern University on a rainy Wednesday afternoon.
Junior
Jake McDevitt tallied his fifth goal of the season off an assist by sophomore
Jack Norwood. Goalie
Dan Jones played well in net for the Knights, registering three saves in the loss.
Neumann would take the lead midway through the first half as McDevitt was rewarded for a great run by a perfectly weighted through ball by Norwood that created a breakaway opportunity. The junior forward deftly chipped the ball over the Eagles oncoming keeper to put the Knights on top. The game would head to the half with Neumann holding the narrow 1-0 advantage.
The second half proved to be Neumann's undoing. Just 12 minutes into the half, Eastern was awarded a penalty kick that led to the tying goal. Jones guessed right and got a finger on the ball, but it found the back of the net to level the score. The game would remain tied until the 80
th minute, when the Eagles struck again to take a 2-1 lead. The final ten minutes would be played entirely in the Eastern end of the field, but despite numerous quality chances to tie the game, the Knights could not find the equalizer. The match would finish with Eastern holding a 9-7 edge in shots and the Knights holding a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Neumann (2-7) is back on the field this Saturday, October 1
st as it takes on Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Cairn University. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
