The Neumann University men's ice hockey team picked up a non-conference victory on the road at Morrisville State College by a score of 6-4 on Friday evening.
Neumann's top line of
Liam Board,
Shayne Morrissey and
Jory Mullin was once again the story for the Knights. The line combined for 11 points as Board registered a hat trick, Morrissey tallied a goal and four assists, and Mullin handed out three assists of his own.
Anthony Pupplo picked up the win in goal for Neumann, making 30 saves.
After starting slow in five of the team's previous six games, Neumann came out strong versus the Mustangs. Normally a play-maker on the top line, Board scored the game's first goal just a minute into the contest.
Nick Perruccio would add a second goal just under six minutes later to double the Knights lead to 2-0. Morrisville State would cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the period, but Morrissey quickly restored the two goal cushion just three minutes later by scoring his ninth goal of the season. The cushion would not last to intermission though, as the Mustangs scored again late in the period to make it 3-2 heading to the break.
The two teams continued to trade goals in the second period. Board would notch his second goal of the game at the 3:37 mark, but the Mustangs would answer back just four minutes later to bring the score to 4-3. The Knights had another answer of their own though, this time on the power play midway through the frame. Board, the nation's leader in assists, capped off his hat trick with the help of assists from Morrissey and Mullin. The game would head to the third period with Neumann leading 5-3.
The third period would see the Mustangs fight back to within a goal, but
Ryan Luiten would tack on a late power play goal to give the Knights a much needed 6-4 road win. Shots for the game would finish 39-33 in favor of Neumann.
Neumann (11-4-2) has the rest of the weekend off before getting back to ECAC West action next Friday, January 20th at Manhattanville College. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
