ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team gets the win over Centenary University 50-46 on a Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
AAliya Hayes led the Knights with a double-double, 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Nafisa Saunders had 13 points and
Lauren Legler tallied 11 points.
Mariah Maciejewski grabbed 14 rebounds.
The teams battled back and forth in the first quarter and the Cyclones took a 13-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Cyclones built up an eight point advantage, 21-13, midway through the second quarter. The Knights then went on a 10-0 run to take a 23-21 lead on a layup by Maciejewski. Centenary tied it back up at 23 with 1:13 to go before halftime. Hayes scored the final four points of the half to give the Knights a 27-23 lead at the half.
No basket was scored for almost the first three minutes as Maciejewski hit a jumper. A Saunders layup with 2:39 left in the third gave Neumann its biggest lead of the quarter, 41-28. Legler was fouled with less than a second remaining in the quarter. The junior sank both of her free throw to give the Knights a 10 point lead, 43-33, going into the final quarter.
Over the first part of the fourth quarter, the Cyclones cur the Knights lead to four, 45-41. A Saunders three-pointer put Neumann back up by seven with three minutes left in regulation. A Hayes layup made the game 50-43 with 1:05 left in the game. Centenary scored the final three points of the game with 54 seconds left.
Neumann (9-6, 4-2 CSAC) will host Rosemont on Wednesday evening as part of a conference doubleheader. The women get underway at 6:00 PM.
