ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team defeated Rosemont College 69-60 on Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Three Knights hit double figures against the Ravens.
AAliya Hayes led Neumann with 25 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double.
Nafisa Saunders scored 21 and
Shauntel Williams added 12.
Lauren Legler had six steals.
The first quarter went back and fourth for the Knights and the Ravens. A free throw by Legler tied the teams at eight with four minutes remaining. Rosemont held a 14-12 lead at the end of the quarter.
Williams started the second quarter off with a free throw. Rosemont then went on a 10-0 run for a 24-13 advantage. A jumper by
Mariah Maciejewski broke the Knights scoreless drought. Over the rest of the quarter the Knights started to chip into the Raven lead, getting as close as 27-22 at the half.
Rosemont held the lead for the entire third quarter. With 2:22 left on the clock, and the Ravens leading 46-32, the Knights went on to score the final five points to gain momentum into the final 10 minutes.
Two free throws by the Ravens gave them a 48-37 lead. The Knight then began once again to chip into the deficit. With 5:53 on the clock, Saunders hit a layup to bring Neumann within three, 54-51. Rosemont built its lead back up to six, 60-54, with 4:13 left in regulation. A layup from Hayes with 2:16 left in the quarter gave the Knights the lead. Neumann ended the game with a 15-0 run and held Rosemont at 60 for the final four minutes.
Neumann (10-6, 5-2 CSAC) will host on Saturday afternoon in another conference game against Clark Summit. Tip off is at 1:00 PM.
