ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West matchup versus Oswego State on Friday evening by a score of 7-0.
Julia Fair and
Helen Cooney combined for 48 saves, both registering 24 saves in net.
Bek Lucas led the Knights in shots with four, but the offense struggled to get going in the shutout loss.
Neumann would fall behind Oswego State early, as the Lakers notched two first period goals to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Lucas had the Knights best chance to score in the period as she stickhandled through three defenders before seeing her shot saved by the Laker goaltender. Shots for the period would finish 16-6 in favor of Oswego State.
The second and third periods would see the Knights undone by penalties. Neumann would commit nine penalties in total, while the Lakers would commit just one. Oswego State would make the Knights pay, scoring four power play goals in the final two periods to skate away with a 7-0 win.
Neumann (6-9-1, 2-6-1 ECAC West) is right back in action tomorrow for the second of its two game series versus the Lakers. The Knights will honor retiring Neumann University president Rosalie Mirenda and Neumann's ambassador Tony Mirenda prior to the game, which is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
