RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team hung on for an 84-76 win at Cabrini University on Thursday evening in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup.
Carl Wallace led the Knights with 20 rebounds and 16 points for a double-double.
Tyaire Hudson netted a team high 21 points.
DeShawn Lowman netted 14 points and
DeAndre Williams added 12 points. The team shot 44.6% from the field.
The game was a battle for all 40 minutes. With 12:18 left in the first half, the teams were tied for the third time, 14-14. The Knights went on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes for a 23-16 advantage. Neumann held a 39-33 lead with under two minutes left before halftime when Cabrini scored the next five points to get within one. A free throw with nine seconds and a layup at the buzzer, both by Hudson, put the Knights up 42-38 at the break.
The second half started like the first half. With 14:15 remaining in regulation, Neumann had a 50-47 lead when it went on a 16-7 run, capped by a lay-up and free throw by
Tony Parker, for a 66-54 advantage. That run proved to be the pivotal point that helped the Knights take the game.
Still within striking distance, Cabrini would not go quietly and chipped its way back to within six, 79-73, with under a minute remaining. In the final 35 seconds, Hudson went 3-for-4 from the free throw line and Williams went 2-for-2 to keep the cushion for the Knights. The Cavaliers capped the game by hitting a three with seven seconds, but the free throws by Hudson and Williams helped seal the win.
Neumann (11-0, 5-0 CSAC) will head to Cairn on Saturday for more CSAC action beginning at 3:00 PM.
