LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team hung on for a 65-61 win at Cairn University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
AAliya Hayes led three Knights in double figures with 21 points.
Lauren Legler hit six three-pointers en route to her 19 points.
Mariah Maciejewski added 15 points.
Shauntel Williams handed out eight assists.
The Knights started the game hot, scoring 15 of the first 17 points and held a 20-7 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Highlanders went on a run over the first part of the second quarter to get within two, 28-26, with two minutes left before halftime. A three-pointer by Williams started an 8-2 run for the Knights to end the half and Neumann took a 36-28 lead into the break.
The teams played evenly throughout the three quarter and Neumann held a 52-46 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
Back-to-back three pointers by the Highlanders midway through the final quarter made it a one-point game, 58-57. After almost two minutes of no scoring, Cairn connected on two free throws to take a 59-58 lead. The Knights answered and Leger hit a three-pointer to give the Knights back the lead. Hayes followed with a layup for a 63-59 score with 1:04 left on the clock. Leger and Hayes each went 1-for-2 from the line in the final 30 seconds to seal the conference win for the Knights.
Neumann (6-6, 2-2 CSAC) will host Rutgers-Camden on Monday evening in its final non-conference games of the season. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
