ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team battled to a hard fought 0-0 draw versus Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
Christian Cortese led the way for Neumann with five shots, while
Jake McDevitt and
Marlon Trejo each tallied four apiece.
Perry Corsetti picked up his third consecutive conference shutout, stopping two saves in the draw.
In a physical and frenetic first half, the Knights carried the play to Keystone. Neumann outshot the Giants by a count of 7-3 in the opening frame, but could not put a ball in the back of the net. The Knights came closest to finding a goal when a ball was cleared off the Keystone goal line in the 35th minute.
The second half would see even more territorial advantage for Neumann, who would outshoot the Giants by a count of 13-5 in the period. Despite the significant shot advantage, a stingy Keystone defense was able to withstand the Knights' pressure and keep the game scoreless at the end of regulation. Neumann's best chance to win the game came in the 64th minute as a Trejo shot was tipped just wide by the Keystone keeper.
The overtime period would be a back and forth affair. Keystone carried play in the first extra session with a few chances, but it would be Neumann who would take control in the second overtime. The Knights pressed hard until the final whistle, generating a final chance in the game's final seconds, but the effort would go just wide and the game would end tied 0-0.
Neumann (4-4-1, 2-0-1 CSAC) will look to continue its unbeaten start to CSAC play when it heads to Rosemont College on Wednesday, October 4th. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
