ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team extended its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) unbeaten run to four games on Wednesday afternoon, taking down host Rosemont College by a score of 2-0.
Christian Cortese and
Jake McDevitt each scored for the Knights in the win.
Perry Corsetti continued his fine form, picking up his fourth consecutive shutout.
Neumann wasted no time jumping out in front of the Ravens. Cortese picked up a loose ball in the Rosemont box and deposited it into the goal at the 7:35 mark to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Neumann continued to apply pressure in the Rosemont end for the remainder of the half, but could not find a second marker before halftime. The Knights best chance to add to their lead came in the 23
rd minute, when
Marlon Trejo's screamer from 35 yards out rattled off the crossbar. Shots in the first half finished 9-4 in favor of Neumann.
The Knights looked to add some insurance to their one goal advantage in the second half. Despite several quality opportunities though, the game remained 1-0 until McDevitt sealed the win late in the match. The senior forward worked in behind the Ravens back-line in the 84
th minute and tucked home his 8
th goal of the season to send the Knights home with the 2-0 win.
With the win, Neumann has now played four consecutive matches without conceding a goal. Dating back to a September 20th loss at Johns Hopkins, the team now has a shutout streak of 398 minutes and 28 seconds.
Neumann (5-4-1, 3-0-1) now has a week off before returning to CSAC action next Wednesday, October 11
th for a matchup at rival Cabrini University. Game-time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
