Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Takes Down Immaculata

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team found its way back into the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Immaculata University.

Matt Sengphachanh was the catalyst for Neumann on the day, coming off the bench to set up both Knights goals for the first two assists of his career. Christian Cortese and Jake McDevitt found the back of the net for Neumann, who received another shutout from goalie Perry Corsetti (4 saves).

The Knights played a strong first half, but despite a large advantage in possession, could not break down a stingy Immaculata defense. Neumann would hold large advantages in both corners (9-0) and shots (9-4) as the first half came to an end but the score remained 0-0 at the intermission.

The second half would see the Knights finally break through. Super sub Sengphachanh created an instant spark for Neumann once he came into the game in the 67th minute. Just two minutes after coming on the field, the freshman forward found his way in behind the Mighty Mac back-line and ripped a shot on goal. Immaculata's keeper made the initial save, but the rebound bounced right to a streaking Cortese who buried the ball into the back of the net to put the Knights up 1-0.

Sengphachanh continued generating offense for Neumann as the half progressed. Just four minutes after the Knights took the lead, the forward orchestrated a second tally for Neumann. Muscling his way around a few Mighty Mac defenders, Sengphachanh hammered another shot on goal that bounced right to McDevitt, who tapped home the insurance marker in the 73rd minute to seal the win.

The Knights finished the game with a 20-11 edge in shots and an 11-3 advantage in corners.

Neumann (6-5-1, 4-1-1) hits the road for a crucial conference match next Tuesday, October 17th versus Centenary University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
