ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback on Senior Day to visiting Cairn University on Saturday afternoon.
Jake McDevitt scored the team's lone goal of the match off a feed from
Christian Cortese.
Perry Corsetti got the start in goal, making one save in the loss.
Senior Day opened as planned for the Knights, as McDevitt and Cortese teamed up to honor themselves and their classmates with the opening marker just 16 minutes into the game. Cortese slotted an excellent ball past the Cairn back line to McDevitt, who slotted home the ball into the side netting to make it 1-0 Neumann.
Cairn would not go quietly though. Just ten minutes later the Highlanders found an equalizer to knot the game at 1-1. Despite a 12-3 edge in first half shots for the Knights, the game went to halftime tied.
Neumann came out of the halftime break determined to find a winning goal. The Knights threw chance after chance on the Highlanders goal early in the second half, but came up empty. Cairn absorbed the early pressure and found the game-winner midway through the half on a well-executed counted attack. Neumann battled to the end, hitting the crossbar late in the game, but could not get the game tied. Despite the team's best efforts, the Highlanders took home the 2-1 win.
Neumann (6-7-1, 4-3-1 CSAC) has one game remaining in its regular season schedule on Tuesday, October 24th at Marywood. Game-time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
