ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Neumann University women's soccer team used a second half surge to soar past host Cedar Crest College by a score of 3-2 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on a warm Saturday afternoon.
Anna Attardi was the hero on the day for the Knights, scoring all three goals in the victory. Goalie
Brittany Cullison stood tall in goal, making five saves to pick up the win.
The game started just as the Knights had planned, as the team jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just under 11 minutes into the opening half. Attardi got on the end of a
Taylor Garman free kick behind the Cedar Crest backline and deposited the ball into the back of the net to put Neumann out in front.
Cedar Crest would not go quietly though. The Falcons answered right back with a goal in the 14th minute to knot the score up at one apiece. Neumann responded back with several chances, but it would be Cedar Crest who would break the deadlock. Despite outshooting the Falcons by a count of 13-4 in the first frame, Neumann conceded a goal with just 1:32 remaining in the half to trail 2-1 at halftime.
The Knights continued to apply pressure in the Falcons end in the second half and finding more magic from Attardi they found their way back into the game. The sophomore used her speed and poise in front of goal to score twice in a ten minute span midway through the second half to put Neumann on top for good by a score of 3-2. With her three goals on the day, Attardi now has six goals on the season.
Cedar Crest tried to fight back late in the game, but a few key stops from Cullison sealed the win for the visitors. Shots on the day finished 20-10 in favor of the Knights.
Neumann (4-5-1, 4-2-1) returns home for a conference matchup on Tuesday, October 10th versus Rosemont College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
