SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to No. 10 the University of Scranton, 76-44, on Monday evening in non-conference action.
Nafisa Saunders scored 17 points to lead the Knights.
Erin Baker added nine points on three three-pointers.
The Royals came out and scored the first six points of the game. The Knights answered with the next six points. Midway through the first quarter, it was a one point game, 11-10, Scranton had the edge. The Royals outscored Neumann 9-2 in the rest of the quarter for a 20-12 score after the first 10 minutes.
Scranton steadily built its lead in the second quarter and took a 36-18 lead into halftime. The Royals came out into the third quarter and did not let up. Scranton led 59-25 heading into the final 10 minutes.
In the fourth quarter, the Knights would score 19 of their points. Baker scored her nine points as she connected on her three baskets from beyond the arc.
Kara Hignutt netted six points, and went 4-for-4 from the line.
Neumann (2-3) will open conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Rosemont. Action gets underway at 6:00 PM in the Mirenda Center.
