Knights Hold On for CSAC Opening Win

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up a 73-71 win over Rosemont College on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Mariah Maciejewski notched a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Nafisa Saunders hit double-figures adding 16 points and Minika Glenn netted 12 points and dished out six assists. The Knights scored at least 17 points in each quarter en route to the win.
 
Rosemont started off scoring 11 of the 13 opening points of the first quarter. A three-pointer by Lauren Legler began the Knights chipping back into the Ravens lead. Over the final three minutes of the first quarter, Neumann outscored Rosemont 9-2 to go from being down 15-9 and take an 18-17 lead. Lauren Leicht hit a three-pointer with 13 seconds left to put the Knights up by one.
 
The Ravens started the second quarter by scoring the first eight points to regain the lead, 25-18. Rosemont continued to hold the advantage, this time 31-26, with 1:40 left before halftime. Four straight points by Saunders brought the Knights to within one. The Ravens connected on a lay-up with just over a minutes remaining. Erin Baker hit a three-pointer to tie the game with 53 second left before halftime. Glenn put Neumann in the lead as she hit a jumper with 13 seconds left in the quarter and the Knights took a 35-33 advantage into halftime.
 
Within the first four minutes of the second half, the Knights built a 10 point lead, 47-37, and held a lead as big as 12, 55-43, during the quarter. Rosemont scored the final six points of the quarter and Neumann took a 55-49 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
The Ravens continued their run to start the fourth quarter and pulled to within one, 56-55. After a couple of traded baskets, the Knights built their lead back up to 11, 71-60, with 1:24 left in regulation. The Ravens were not going to go quietly in the final minute and scored six straight points to get to within four, 71-67. Shauntel Williams went 1-for-2 from the line to get the lead back to five. After another Rosemont basket, Glenn went to the line and went 1-for-2 for a four point advantage. Rosemont would net a buzzer beater, but the two late free-throws proved to be the difference.
 
Neumann (3-3, 1-0 CSAC) will travel to Keystone College on Saturday for a 1:00 PM tip-off followed by the men's game at 3:00 PM.
