Men's Hockey Plays to Draw Versus Lebanon Valley

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie in its second United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game of the weekend versus Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Swain carried the Knights offensively on the afternoon, scoring a pair of goals. Liam Board also continued his excellent start to the season with two assists, while Anthony Pupplo made 39 saves in goal in the draw.

Things started well for the Knights, as the team scored twice in the opening three minutes of play to take an early 2-0 lead. Swain got the scoring started for Neumann, finding the Lebanon Valley net-minder's five hole on a breakaway 51 seconds into the game to put the Knights in front. Jake Davidson then followed Swain's effort with a snipe from the high slot just over two minutes later to double the lead for the hosts.

The two goal advantage would not last long though, as the Flying Dutchman responded with a goal of their own on a power play midway through the first frame to cut the lead in half. The game would head to the first intermission with Neumann leading 2-1 despite a 16-13 edge in shots for Lebanon Valley.

The Knights found the better of the play in the second stanza, doubling the Flying Dutchman in shots by a count of 16-8. Neumann would use its territorial edge to build its lead back to two goals late in the period on the power play. Swain banged home a loose puck after an excellent individual effort by Board to send the team to the third up by a pair of goals.

The third period would be a wild and crazy affair with lots of excitement. Unfortunately for the Knights, it was Lebanon Valley who enjoyed much of the thrills. Using several Neumann penalties to their advantage, the Flying Dutchman fought their way back into the game.

Lebanon Valley scored two minutes into the final period to make it 3-2 and set the stage for a crazy finish. With the Knights still clinging to a one goal advantage late in the game, a series of Neumann penalties gave the Flying Dutchman a two man advantage for most of the final three minutes of the game. Pupplo stood on his head to preserve the Neumann lead, but a Lebanon Valley goal with just four seconds remaining in regulation sent the game to overtime.

The Knights took the play to the visitors in the extra session, but despite a 6-1 edge in shots the game would end in a 3-3 tie.

Neumann (1-2-1, 1-0-1 UCHC) returns to the ice next Friday, November 10th for a matchup versus conference rival Manhattanville College. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
