RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team fell at Cabrini University 3-1 in the 2017 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship match.
 
The Knights won the first set 25-20. The Cavaliers edged out set two 25-23 and then took the match with 25-19 scores in sets three and four.
 
Melanie Malseed was on fire and tallied 22 kills in the match. Rachael Hoffman added nine kills. Rachel Cray handed out 40 assists. Kirsten Longueira notched 23 digs to anchor the defense while Malseed added 12. Cray also added four service aces.
 
Each set went back and forth with each team having a chance to take control. In the first set, the Knights took an 8-8 tie and built a 15-9 advantage, led by two kills by Malseed and one by Hoffman. The Cavaliers would get back to within a 23-19 score. A kill by Malseed put Neumann up 24-19 and then another Malseed kill sealed the first set win 25-20/
 
In the second set, one team would score a few points, and then the other team could get back to within a point or two. With Cabrini leading 23-19, Malseed tallied a kill ad Cray notched two service aces, combined with an attack error by the Cavaliers and the Knights tied the game at 23. A Knights service error and a Cabrini service ace tied the match at one set apiece.
 
The third and fourth sets were very similar. The Cavaliers would build a lead, but the Knights would chip their way back into each set. The teams would be within a point of each other as the raced to be the first to reach 20 points. But Cabrini was able to get over the hump before Neumann and took both sets to take the match and the CSAC Championship.
 
Neumann finishes the season 16-22 overall.
