Knights Clinch the No. 1 Seed with 73-69 Win over Cavaliers

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team clinched the No. 1 seed  in the postseason with a 73-69 win over Cabrini University on Wednesday evening in Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Three Knights had double-doubles in the game. DeShawn Lowman netted 24 points and 13 rebounds. Darian Barnes added 17 points and went 9-for-11 from the free throw line, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots. Carl Wallace also tallied 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.  
 
The first half featured seven lead changes and eight tied scores. The teams started out slowly and Lowman netted the first basket of the game a minute in. With 6:55 on the clock, the Cavalier went on a 7-2 run to take the largest lead of the half, 27-21. The Knights answered with the next six points, four by Lowman and a dunk by Wallace, to tie the game at 27. A three-pointer by DeAndre Williams put Neumann up 34-32 with 2:22 left before halftime. Cabrini netted the last four points of the half to take a 36-34 lead into the break.
 
Wallace opened the second half with a jumper to tie the game again, the first of four knotted scores in the half. The game would come down to the final few minutes. The Cavaliers held their last lead with 3:00 on the clock. Lowman then put Neumann in the lead for good 30 seconds later. The Knights would hold a two point advantage, 68-66, with 1:48 left in regulation. The next basket would come when Tyaire Hudson hit two free throws with 27 seconds remaining to increase Neumann's lead to four. Barnes would follow with two free throws for the Knights' biggest lead, 72-66. Cabrini pushed down the court and hit a three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining. Barnes was fouled with eight seconds left and made 1-of-2 for a two-possession game and Neumann came away with the 73-69 win.
 
Neumann (22-2, 16-1 CSAC) will wrap up the regular season on Saturday as it travels to Marywood. Action gets underway at 3:00 PM.
