HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University women's basketball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped at Centenary University 73-53, on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
AAliya Hayes and
Mariah Maciejewski each notched a double-double. Hayes finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Maciejewski had 11 points and 11 boards.
Nafisa Saunders led the Knights in points scoring 22.
Scoring was scarce to start the game. Centenary started the game on a 4-0 run before Hayes put the Knights on the board with 5:20 left of the first quarter. The Cyclones took a six point advantage, 14-8, into the second quarter.
Midway through the second, and Centenary holding a 22-14 lead, the Cyclones went on an 11-4 run to take a 15 point advantage. Centenary took a 23-38 into halftime.
The third quarter was evenly matches, with the Cyclones outscoring the Knights 18-17. With the lead built up in the first half, Centenary was able to take a 56-40 score into the final 10 minutes.
The Cyclones continued to use the lead built up in the first half, and didn't let the Knights start any runs, to come away with the 73-53 win over the Knights.
Neumann (14-7, 9-3 CSAC) clinched a postseason berth, despite the loss. The Knights will head to Rosemont on Wednesday to look to start a new winning streak. CSAC action is slated to get underway at 6:00 PM.
