AUBURNDALE, Fla. – In the final game of its spring break trip, the Neumann University baseball team fell late to Rhode Island College on Saturday morning.
Cody MacNair went 3-for-4 with a solo homerun.
Chuck Trentler had two hits, including a triple, and scored on a run.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 5.0 innings in the no-decision. He allowed three unearned runs on four hits and struck out four. He retired the first eight batters he faced.
Bobby Sefick went 2.0 innings on the mound, allowed two one run on two hits.
Taylor Reynolds pitched the eighth inning.
Jerome Cevetello took the loss, pitching the ninth inning. He allowed two runs on three hits.
Trentler opened the bottom of the first inning with a triple and scored on a single by
Evan Emerich.
Jon DelValle scored the Knights' second run after being hit by a pitch to get on base. He scored on a ground out by
Matt McLaughlin.
Rhode Island capitalized on two Neumann errors in the fifth inning and scored three unearned runs. MacNair tied the game at three with his homerun in the bottom of the fifth.
The Anchormen took a 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the seventh. With one out in the seventh inning, Trentler singled and
Eric Bergman hit a two-run homerun for a 5-4 Knights lead. Rhode Island hit two triples in the top of the ninth as it took back the lead.
The Knights got a baserunner in the bottom of the ninth, but could not get the run across the plate.
Neumann (2-4) heads back north and will open its home schedule on Tuesday against Salisbury. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
