POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 decision on a cold Sunday afternoon in New York versus Bard College.
Chase Fraser was the difference-maker for the Knights on the afternoon, scoring four goals and leading the team with 21 shots.
Adam Fagan also chipped in with a goal and an assist, while
Brendan Risley was stellar in goal making 20 saves on 29 Bard shots on goal.
The Knights would jump out to an early lead thanks to goals from three different players in the opening quarter.
Chris Augustine opened the scoring just under two minutes into the game, followed by tallies from Fagan and
Zac Clifton to give Neumann a 3-2 lead heading to the second stanza.
Despite the early Neumann lead, the second quarter would be all Bard. The Raptors shut down the Knights' offense and responded with the only three goals of the quarter to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.
Neumann would fight its way back into the game at the start of the second half. Fraser was a one-man wrecking crew for the Knights, scoring all four Neumann goals in the quarter to bring the team back to within a goal (8-7) as the game headed into the final period of play.
The Knights had a few quality chances to tie the game up in the final quarter, but could not find an equalizer. Bard turned up its defending once again and held Neumann scoreless in the quarter to seal the win. The Raptors would tack on an insurance marker late to claim a 9-7 non-conference win.
Neumann (1-2) takes the field again on Wednesday, March 8th when it heads to Hood College. Game-time is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
