ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team remained perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of wins over Immaculata University. Game scores were 4-1 and 10-5.
In the first game, the Knights started the scoring in the fourth inning.
Melissa Bond and
Kristina Del Gaiso both singled for two runners on with two outs.
Autumn Passarello knocked a single to score Bond.
Kara Grogan followed with a two-run double to score Del Gaiso and Pasarello for a 3-0 lead.
Neumann took a 4-0 lead with a run in the fifth inning.
Sarah Murray singled and came around to score on a base hit by Bond.
The Mighty Macs got their run in the sixth inning.
Jen Sieminski went the distance in the circle for the win. In 7.0 innings, she allowed one run on five hits and struck out 10.
In game two, the Mighty Macs scored first and plated four runs in the top of the third. The Knights got two of the runs back in the fourth inning. The teams traded runs in the fifth inning and Immaculata took a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning.
The Knights completed the comeback in the bottom of the sixth as they took advantage of a key Mighty Mac error and scored seven runs. With one out, nine straight Knights reached base en route to the seven runs.
Kate Korte' scored an unearned run to tie the game at five as
Kendall Boardman reached on an error. Neumann went on to score five more unearned runs highlighted by a two-run double by
Becky Guinto.
Bond finished game two with three hits.
Haley Broomell pitched the complete game for the win. In 7.0 innings, she allowed five runs, four earned, and she struck out eight.
Neumann (14-8, 10-1 CSAC) will head to Centenary University on Saturday for another CSAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
