HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University softball team split a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games at Centenary University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights took game one 5-0 while the Cyclones won game two 2-1.
In the first game, Neumann got on the board early with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Autumn Passarello led the game off with a double.
Melissa Bond reached on an error.
Becky Guinto doubled to knock in both runners. Guinto scored on a sacrifice fly by
Julia Cox.
The Knights added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Bond and Guinto led off with back-to-back singles. With one out,
Sarah Murray doubled to knock in Bond. Cox followed with an RBI single to score Guinto.
Haley Broomell picked up the win, going the distance for the complete game shutout. In 7.0 inning, the senior allowed four hits and struck out six.
In the second game, neither team would get on the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
Grace Sperrazza singled with one out and scored on a single by
Kendall Boardman to put Neumann up 1-0. Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Knights still held onto the 1-0 lead. The Cyclones led off with a single and advanced to third on a Knight error. The next batter walked for runners on the corners. Both runners would come around to score after some defensive miscues to win the game in walk-off fashion.
Jen Sieminski pitched 6+ innings and took the loss. She allowed just the two unearned runs on three hits and struck out a trio.
Neumann (15-9, 11-1 CSAC) will head to Notre Dame (Md.) on Tuesday to continue conference action. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 5:00 PM at Harford Community College.
