BEL AIR, Md. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of games against Notre Dame of Maryland University on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 16-1 and 26-0, both in five innings.
Michaela Pembleton pitched the first game and went the distance for the win. In 5.0 innings she allowed one run on four hits and struck out five. Each started for the Knights reached base in the win.
Becky Guinto and
Kate Korte' each had four hits in the game.
Autumn Passarello led off with a double and traded places with Guinto for the first run of the game. Guinto scored on a fielder's choice by
Julia Cox for a 2-0 lead. The Gators scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-1 game after one.
Neumann added two more runs in the third inning as Guinto led off with a triple and scored on a RBI ground out
Jackie Schneider.
Sarah Murray reached on an error and scored on a single by Korte'.
The Knights exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning. With two outs, Neumann hit three straight RBI singles, followed by a two-run triple by
Grace Sperrazza. The Knights added five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Korte' for the 16-1 final.
In game two, freshman
Taylor Sirolli pitched a no-hitter. She struck out two in the complete game win.
Kendall Boardman had five hits in the game.
Neumann's bats remained hot in the second game. After two scoreless innings, the Knights struck for 12 runs in the third. Guinto, Schneider (twice) and Korte' all had two-run knocks as 16 batters came to the plate.
The Knights continued in the fourth inning and scored eight runs as 13 batter came up to bat.
Zina Naughton hit a two-run double in the inning. The Knights completed the doubleheader with six runs in the fifth inning.
Neumann (17-9, 13-1 CSAC) will host Stockton on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
