GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Needing a win in its final conference match of the season to make the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs, the Neumann University men's tennis team came up clutch, taking home a convincing 8-1 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University on Tuesday afternoon.
Neumann got off to a quick start in the do or die matchup. The Knights picked up wins in two of the three doubles contests to take an early 2-1 lead.
Daniel Rival and
Rod Bradbury were victorious at first singles by a score of 8-2, while
Andrew Wilbraham and
Billy Swontek won at third singles by a count of 8-0.
As the match moved to singles, Neumann took complete control. The Knights swept all six contests to cruise to the 8-1 win.
Daniel Rival (6-0, 6-2 first singles), Zac Lazarro (6-3, 6-4 second singles),
Jordan Collins (6-1, 6-1 third singles),
Andrew Wilbraham (6-2, 7-5 fourth singles),
Rod Bradbury (6-2, 6-1 fifth singles) and
Billy Swontek (6-1, 6-1 sixth singles) all took wins to push the Knights into the CSAC playoffs.
With the win, Neumann (5-5, 5-2 CSAC) heads to the CSAC playoffs as the third seed. The Knights will travel to the Legacy Youth Tennis Complex on Friday, April 21
st for a semifinal matchup versus Immaculata University. With a win, Neumann would advance to the CSAC Championship match on Saturday, April 22
nd.
