Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Grounded by Griffins

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team fell in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday evening, dropping a 12-8 result on the road to conference rival Gwynedd Mercy University.

Chase Fraser continued to build on his national scoring lead, notching five more goals to run his season total to 58 on the season. Sergio Plesati and Xavier Glanzel each chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Chris Augustine also tallied for the Knights. Brendan Risley was outstanding in goal, making 19 saves in the loss.

Neumann would fall behind early, conceding five first quarter goals to the Griffins. Plesati and Glanzel found the back of the net for the Knights in opening period of play, but Neumann would head to the second quarter trailing by a score of 5-2.

The second quarter would see the Knights tighten up defensively. Neumann would get back into the game by scoring three of the game's next four goals to bring the score back to 6-5 at the 4:53 mark of the period. Fraser led the way in the quarter with two goals, while Augustine chipped in with a goal as well. The game looked to be headed to halftime at the same score, but the Griffins scored with just 33 seconds left to play in the half to take a 7-5 lead to the break.

Gwynedd Mercy would use the momentum gained from the late goal to take a strangle-hold on the game in the third quarter. Using three unanswered goals in the third frame, the Griffins padded their lead to 10-5 as the game moved into the final period of play.

Despite the five goal deficit, the Knights would not go quietly. Fraser was a one-man wrecking crew for Neumann in the quarter, scoring three times to get the Knights back into the game. Neumann would outscore the Griffins 3-2 in the frame, but it was a bit too little, too late as the Knights fell by a score of 12-8.

Neumann (5-8, 2-3 CSAC) returns to the field this Saturday, April 22nd when it travels to Keystone College for another crucial CSAC contest. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
