CLASK SUMMIT, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took two games at Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 16-4 and 12-3, both finishing in five innings.
In game one,
Kate Korte' knocked in five runs while
Julia Cox had three RBI.
Becky Guinto had three hits, all doubles, and scored three runs. Five Knights had doubles in the game.
With the bases loaded in the first inning, Cox doubled to score
Autumn Passarello and Guinto.
Jackie Schneider scored on a wild pitch and Cox came around to score on an error for an early 4-0 lead.
Neumann scored three more runs in the third inning. Guinto doubled to score
Kristina Del Gaiso.
Marisa Giordano scored on a bases loaded walk by Cox and Guinto scored on a sacrifice fly by Korte'.
The Knights exploded for six runs in the fourth inning. Korte' tripled to score Schneider and Guinto and scored on a single by
Kara Grogan to highlight the inning. Neumann added three more runs in the fifth inning to round out the scoring.
The Defenders spoiled the shutout and plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Taylor Sirolli went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs on seven hits and struck out three in five innings.
As the Knights went for the sweep, Giordano and Guinto each had three hits and scored three runs in the win. Cox knocked in another four runs.
Michaela Pembleton picked up the win going 5.0 innings, slowing three runs on five hits and striking out four.
Cox knocked in the first run of the game as she knocked an RBI single with the bases loaded in the first inning. Neumann went up 2-0 as Guinto scored on a sacrifice fly by Korte'.
Clarks Summit had its first two batter reach and come around to score to tie the game at two after one.
The Knights answered with four runs in the second and third innings to take a 10-2 lead. The Defenders got one run back in the fourth. Neumann two more runs in the fifth inning for the 12-3 final.
Neumann (20-10, 15-1 CSAC) will host Keystone College tomorrow afternoon in a rescheduled CSAC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
