ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season portion of its schedule in style, picking up an exciting 15-14 win over Moravian College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The win is the team's fourth in a row and ninth in its last ten contests.
Kaitlyn Conrad was fantastic on the afternoon for the Knights, racking up seven goals and an assist in the game to push her over the 50 goal plateau for the season.
Brittany Cassidy and
Shae Risley also notched three goals apiece, while
Gabby Curry was outstanding in goal. The sophomore net-minder stopped 20 shots between the pipes to pick up the win.
Neumann would get out to a hot start, scoring three times in the first three minutes via goals from Cassidy, Risley and Conrad to take an early 3-0 lead. After a timeout, Moravian found its footing and responded with a goal at the 26:12 mark to get back to within two goals at 3-1. The next 20 minutes would be very evenly played. Each team scored three times to make it 6-4 In the Knights favor with 7:14 left to play in the opening period of play.
The Greyhounds began to find some momentum late in the half. Moravian would score the next two goals to knot the game up 6-6 at the 5:22 mark. For the rest of the half though, it was the Conrad Show. The sophomore attacker tallied three goals in the final five minutes of the half including one with just two seconds left to play to give the Knights a 9-7 lead at the half.
The second half continued to be a back and forth affair between the two evenly match teams. The see-saw battle would tip in Moravian's favor in the opening minutes of the second stanza. Using a 4-2 run to open the half, the Greyhounds again leveled the score at 11-11 with 16:27 left to play in the game.
Despite giving up the lead, Neumann would not be rattled. The Knights responded with a 4-0 run of their own led by two goals apiece from Conrad and Risley to take their biggest lead of the game 15-11 with 8:40 to go in the second half.
From there, the Knights looked to fend off a late Moravian rally. The Greyhounds tallied three times in the next seven minutes to close within one goal with just over a minute left to play, but Neumann would shut the door after that. The Knights would play solid defense in the final minute to seal a hard fought 15-14 win.
Neumann (9-8, 7-2 CSAC) will look to continue riding the wave of momentum created by its four game winning streak when it hosts Keystone College in the first round of the CSAC playoffs this Saturday, April 29th. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
