ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took two games from Cairn University on Monday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Monday afternoon.
The Knights won the first game 26-1. Senior
Haley Broomell threw a perfect game in game two as Neumann won 14-0. It is the senior's second perfect game, with her first coming against Clarks Summit (then Baptist Bible) on April 15, 2015.
In game one, the Knights batted around in every inning.
Becky Guinto got Neumann on the board with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
Zina Naughton hit a two-run single in the inning. Guinto hit a two-run single on her second at-bat of the inning. The Knights plated 13 runs in the first and sent 19 batters to the plate.
Taylor Naman picked up the win in the circle. She allowed just one unearned run, four hits and struck out three in 5.0 innings.
In game two, Broomell sent all 15 batters down in order in 5.0 innings. She struck out six along the way. The senior also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, sacrifice fly and knocked in three runs.
The Knights scored five runs in the first inning to get things started, highlighted by a two-run single by
Jackie Schneider. Broomell knocked in two runs with her double in the second inning. Naughton hit a two-run single in the four inning as Neumann plated six runs.
Neumann (10-8, 6-0 CSAC) will host Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon for a CSAC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
