ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of games from Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Senior
Haley Broomell threw a no-hitter in the first game as the Knights won 1-0. Neumann then took game two 18-0 in five innings.
Broomell, who threw a perfect game earlier this week, went 6.1 innings before hitting a batter for the Griffins first base runner. The senior ended the game striking out 11.
Becky Guinto scored the only run of the game in the third inning. She led off with a single up the middle and came around to score on a RBI ground out by
Kara Grogan.
Jackie Schneider led the Knights in game two, going 4-for-4 with seven RBI and three runs scored.
Neumann did not waste any time and scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Autumn Passarello and Grogan hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Schneider knocked in her first run of the game, Passarello, with a single. Grogan scored on a ground out by
Sarah Murray.
Julia Cox knocked in Schneider with a single.
The Knights then scored six runs in the second inning. With two runners on, Passarello hit a two-run double. With the bases loaded, Schneider hit a bases-clearing triple. Schneider scored on a sacrifice fly by Murray.
Neumann's bats continued stayed hot in the third inning as it scored nine runs. Schneider knocked in two with a single.
Kate Korte' hit a bases clearing double in in the inning as well.
Jen Sieminski got the win, going 5.0 innings. She allowed four hits and struck out five.
Neumann (12-8, 8-0 CSAC) will host Immaculata on Wednesday in a CSAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
