ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team won its second consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest and third straight game overall with a 13-10 win over Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon.
Chase Fraser and
Adam Fagan carried the offensive load for the Knights in the conference win. Fraser picked up five goals on the afternoon to go along with five ground balls, while Fagan picked up four tallies of his own.
Tylar Schlimme played the role of play-maker with two assists on the day and
Brendan Risley picked up his fifth win of the season in goal, making 13 saves.
A high scoring first quarter saw the Knights take an early lead over the Ravens. Following a familiar script to the team's previous two wins in the past week, Neumann struck early and often in the opening period of play. Fagan scored three times in the quarter, including the first two of the game to put Neumann out in front.
Xavier Glanzel and
Chris Augustine also found the back of the net for the Knights in the first frame as Neumann took a 5-3 lead into the second quarter.
The second stanza was a much more even period of play. Fraser made it 6-3 early in the quarter, but two Rosemont goals late in the half brought the Ravens back to within a goal at 6-5. The game looked to be heading to halftime with the same score until Fagan struck as time expired to give Neumann a two-goal advantage and much needed momentum headed to the break.
Using the momentum gained from the late first half goal, the Knights continued to take the play to Rosemont as the second half began. Fraser scored just 16 seconds into the third quarter and
Sergio Plesati added even more insurance just five minutes later to give Neumann a commanding 9-5 lead at the 9:19 mark of the frame. Rosemont answered back with two straight goals midway through the period to get back into the game, but a
Ryan Lee goal at the 2:03 mark created a three-goal edge for the Knights headed to the final period of play.
Both teams continued to generate chances in the final frame, but Fraser would be the difference for Neumann in the quarter. Rosemont shrunk the Neumann lead to two with 9:13 left to play, but the senior attacker closed out the game with two goals in the game's final five minutes of play to seal the win by a score of 13-10. With his five goals on the day, Fraser is now over the 50 goal plateau for the season, currently sitting at a whopping 51 tallies.
Neumann (5-6, 2-1 CSAC) will look to make it three conference wins in a row on Wednesday, April 12
th when it hosts CSAC rival Cabrini University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
