MOOSIC, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team's quest for a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship came to an end on Friday evening in a 10-4 loss to Immaculata University.
Immaculata struck first, scoring twice in the first inning. Neumann answered right back and tied the game at two in the top of the second.
Cody MacNair led off the second with a single. With two outs,
Spencer Young singled to put two runners on base. Nick Panissisi knocked in both with a two-run single.
The Knights loaded the bases in the third inning, but a line-out ended the threat. The Mighty Macs walked to lead off the bottom of the third inning and came around to score to take a 3-2 lead. Immaculata took control of the game with six runs in the sixth inning for a 9-2 advantage.
Neumann got two runs back in the top of the seventh.
Matt McLaughlin singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Chuck Trentler. Bergman also singled and scored on a single by
Kyle Weller.
Immaculata scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth for the 10-4 final.
Grant Wallace started the game and went 5.1 innings. He allowed eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and struck out three.
Josh Cruz went two innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
Patrick Graham finished out the eighth inning.
Neumann finishes its season 21-18 overall.
