ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team fell to Rutgers University – Newark on Wednesday evening 5-0.
The Scarlet Raiders took an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the fifth minute. Keeper
Kristen Montgomery made the inital save, but the Scarlet Raiders took advantage of the rebound for the first goal of the game. Rutgers-Newark added two quick goals to start the second half for a 3-0 lead before adding two more before the horn sounded.
The Knights' best opportunity came in the 81
st minute as
Tina Tarantino broke past the Scarlet Raiders defenders and had a point blank shot. Rutgers-Newarks keeper came out and made the save to protect the shutout.
Montgomery started the game in net and made five saves.
Brittany Cullison had six saves during the second half.
Neumann (1-2) will open conference action this weekend as it travels to Centenary on Saturday. The game is slated to get underway at 1:00 PM.
