Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Outlasted by Lions

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team fell by a score of 2-1 to visiting Penn State Harrisburg on Friday evening.

Jake McDevitt registered the Knights lone tally of the contest and also led the team with five shots on the evening. Perry Corsetti made five saves in the loss.

Neumann came out of the gates playing desperate for their first win of the season. The Knights took the play to the Lions early, earning a penalty kick just 2:04 into the match. Unfortunately for Neumann though, McDevitt's attempt was stopped by a diving save from the Penn State Harrisburg goalie to keep the game knotted at zeroes.

The two teams would trade chances throughout the rest of the first frame, but it would be the Knights that would draw first blood. McDevitt used a solid individual effort at the 30:15 mark to bounce back from his earlier penalty miss. The senior forward picked up the ball at midfield on a counter-attack and outraced several Lion defenders before finding the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Any momentum the goal might have given to Neumann was short-lived though. Penn State Harrisburg answered with a goal of their own just eight minutes later to tie up the match late in the half. The game would head to halftime tied at one goal apiece with the Knights holding a 10-7 edge in shots.

Penn State Harrisburg kept their foot on the pedal early in the second stanza. After a Knights' turnover in their own end, the Lions broke in behind the Neumann back-line and finished off a give and go to take a 2-1 lead just 8:33 into the second half. The Knights would press for an equalizer the remainder of the game, but a stingy Lion defense held tight and the game would finish by a count of 2-1.

Neumann (0-3) will get back to the field next Wednesday, September 13th when they travel to Ursinus College. Game-time is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
