ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team fell in a pair of matches at the Buttermaker Tournament at Muhlenberg College on Friday evening.
In the first match, the Knights fell to conference foe Cabrini, 3-1. The Cavaliers took the first two sets, 28-26, 25-23. Neumann battled back and took the third set 25-22. Cabrini won the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
Melanie Malseed and
Rachael Hoffman each had 12 kills in the match.
Rachel Cray handed out 32 assists. Cray and Malseed each notched 18 digs to lead five Knights in double-digits.
Bianca Harbold and
Carlee Herrin tallied 12 digs each and
Hayley Glah added 11.
Neumann battled Virginia Wesleyan in the second match, but again fell in four, 3-1. The Marlins won the first two sets, 25-16, 25-23. The Knights again came back to take set three, 25-22, to force a fourth set. The Marlins hung on for a 25-23 win in set four.
Malseed tallied 12 kills in the match. Cray dished out 31 helpers while notching 20 digs. Malseed tallied 22 digs while Harbold added 20.
Neumann (1-5) will face SUNY-Cortland and Stevenson tomorrow in day two of the Buttermaker Tournament.
