ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up its sixth straight win with a 64-56 victory over Cairn University on Thursday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Nafisa Saunders led all scorers with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Lauren Legler hit five shots from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points. Minika Glenn added 12 points.
 
Legler opened the game with her first three-pointer. The Knights go ahead by a few points, but the Highlanders would answer and remain within a couple points, while also tying the score three times. Kristen Denoncour connected on a layup with 23 seconds on the clock to put Neumann up 15-13 after the first 10 minutes.
 
The second quarter proved to be the difference in the game as Neumann outscored Cairn 17-9. The Knights scored the first 10 points to extend their lead to 25-13. The teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter and Neumann took a 32-22 lead into halftime.
 
Neumann built its lead to as many as 16, 42-26, with 4:27 left in the third quarter. Cairn then went on a 9-0 run and scored 13 of 15 points over a three minute span to get to within five, 44-39. Glenn scored the final five points of the quarter as she hit a free throw and a jumper and then stole an inbound pass for a layup. The Knights took a 10 point advantage, 49-39, into the final quarter.
 
The Knights started the fourth quarter on an 8-2 run to extend their lead back to 16. The Highlanders would not go quietly and scored the next six points to get back to a 10 point game. The teams would trade baskets throughout the rest of regulation and Neumann stayed undefeated in CSAC action with with 64-56 final.
 
Neumann (11-4, 6-0 CSAC) will host Centenary on Saturday as part of a conference doubleheader with the men. Action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
