Women’s Basketball Falls in Nail Biter at Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell in a nail-biter at Cabrini University 60-54 on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
 
Nafisa Saunders led the Knights with 22 points. Lauren Legler added 10 points.
 
Cabrini held the pace in the first quarter and scored the game's first eight points. A layup by Saunders opened the scoring for Neumann. A three-pointer by Legler ended the first 10 minutes with the Cavaliers leading 16-10.
 
Midway through the second quarter, Neumann tied the score at 20 on a layup by Saunders. A free throw by Minika Glenn gave the Knights their first lead of the contest. The rest of the half remained close but a three pointer by Cabrini gave it a 27-25 lead heading into the break.
 
The Cavaliers started the second half on a 9-2 run to take a 36-27 lead. The Knights answered by scoring the next six points to get to within three, 36-33, with 3:44 left in the quarter. Neither team scored over the next two minutes. Cabrini scored four of the final five points of the quarter to take a 40-34 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
Cabrini held the lead for the final quarter, but Neumann remained within a couple baskets. The Knights were within two, 54-52, with 1:19 left in regulation. The Cavaliers connected on four free-throws to extend their lead in the final minute to put the game out of reach.
 
Neumann (12-5, 7-1 CSAC) is off until next Wednesday when it heads to Immaculata University for more CSAC action. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM as part of a doubleheader with the men.
