Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Clips Cougars for Sixth Straight Win

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team won it's sixth consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, picking up a dramatic 2–1 victory over United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) rival Chatham University. With the win, the Knights now stand alone in first place in the UCHC standings, awaiting the results from other conference games this weekend.

Neumann received clutch goals from Jackie Schneider and Claudia Trionfo in the win. Julia Fair was also excellent in net, conceding just one goal on 25 shots she faced.

Defense prevailed In the opening period of play, as neither team would find the back of the net. Neumann received a power-play late in the frame but could not cash-in as the game remained scoreless heading to intermission. Chatham held a 12-10 edge in shots at the break.

The defensive stalemate continued well into the second stanza, as neither team could break through. The Knights generated three second period power-plays and out-shot the Cougars by a count of 14-6 in the frame, but it would be Chatham who would find a late goal to take a 1-0 lead into the final period of play.

Needing a goal to tie things up, the Knights played their best hockey of the day as the game entered the third period. The line of Schneider, Trionfo and Bek Lucas changed the course of the game on just one shift early in the period. Trionfo tallied to tie the game up at one apiece at the 5:30 mark, then assisted on a Schneider goal just 44 seconds later to put Neumann on top 2-1. Chatham would not go quietly and created a few opportunities to tie the the contest late, but solid goaltending down the stretch from Fair secured the 2-1 conference win for the Knights.

Neumann (11-5-2, 9-2-1 UCHC) hits the road next weekend for a pair of non-conference games at Nichols College. Puck-drop on Friday, February 2nd is scheduled for 3:40 PM.
