BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell for the second consecutive day to Buffalo State, falling 3-0 to the Bengals on Saturday afternoon.
Glenn Florczak,
Joe Mitchell and
Ryan Swain led the team with four shots apiece in the loss.
Anthony Pupplo received his second straight start in goal, making 26 saves.
Unlike last night when Neumann took an early lead, Buffalo State struck first late in the first period to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage at the 15:24 mark. The Bengals headed to intermission at the same score, holding a 13-11 edge in shots.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the second stanza, as Pupplo kept the Knights in the game making 12 saves in the period. The Bengals doubled up Neumann in shots in the frame by a count of 12-6, but the game would head to the third with Buffalo State still leading 1-0.
The Knights pressed to get the game tied in the third, but the Bengals net-minder stymied the Neumann attack to keep the shutout intact. Despite outshooting Buffalo State 8-4 in the final period of play, the Bengals scored twice late in the period to seal the 3-0 win.
Neumann (4-9-1) is back in action next weekend when it heads to the Salve Regina Tournament on January 12
th and 13
