ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team wrapped up its first regular season action of Atlantic East Conference play on Sunday afternoon against Marymount University. The Knights fell to the Saints 3-1 with set scores of 25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18.
Bre Hickey led the Knights with 15 kills.
Melanie Malseed added 14 kills.
Rachel Cray handed out 25 kills and
Alex Koppany dished out 18.
Hayley Glah tallied 19 digs while Malseed had 13 and
Carlee Herrin added 10.
Three out of the four sets were back and forth, starting with the first set. The teams were knotted at 23 before the Saints were able to take the next two points and a 1-0 lead. Marymount came out in the second set and scored 12 of the first 14 points for an early lead.
The Knights were able to take set three. With the teams tied at 23, Neumann scored three straight points, including kills by Malseed and Cray, to force a fourth set.
With the Saints holding a 16-15 lead in the fourth set, they went on an 8-1 run for a 24-16 lead. Two kills from Hickey held off Marymount for a few more minutes, but the Saints were able to take the match with the set four win.
Neumann (14-13, 4-2 Atlantic East) will wrap up the regular season this weekend. The Knights will host Rowan on Friday evening as they celebrate senior night.
