Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Stays Unbeaten in Atlantic East With Draw at Wesley

DOVER, Del. - The Neumann University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Atlantic East Conference action, playing to a spirited 0-0 draw on Saturday evening at Wesley College.

Shane Smith shined in goal for Neumann on the evening, making seven saves in net.

The Knights carried play early in the match, outshooting Wesley by a count of 7-5 in the first frame. Despite dominating possession throughout the opening 45 minutes, Neumann found it tough to break through. Just before halftime though, the Knights found the game's first excellent chance. Brady Simon whipped in a fantastic cross to a streaking Ainsley Reid who finished the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors what they thought was a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, Reid was whistled offsides and the game remained scoreless headed into halftime.

As the game moved into the second stanza, Wesley began to create opportunities of its own. Smith was Neumann's best player in the final period of play, making seven second half saves to keep the Knights in the game. The senior net-minder's best stops came with just under 10 minutes left to play when he stopped two point-blank shots inside the six yard box to keep the game tied. Neumann had a few close chances from set-pieces as well but could not find a goal as the game headed to overtime still tied.

Both teams created chances to win in overtime, but neither could find a winner. Wesley outshot the Knights by a count of 7-2 in the extra 20 minutes, but only two of those required saves from Smith. Neumann had a few flurries around the Wolverine goal in each overtime period, but they could not find the back of the net as the game finished in a 0-0 draw.

Neumann (5-3-2) gets back to action on Tuesday, October 9th with a non-conference matchup versus Johns Hopkins. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
