Women's Hockey Picks Up First Win Over Wilkes

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team earned its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, picking up a convincing 7-3 win over Wilkes University.

Katelyn Brown returned to the lineup with a four point afternoon (3 goals, 1 assist) to lead the Knights attack. Jackie Schneider (2 goals, 1 assist), Jordyn Cholysh (3 assists) and Sid Squires (3 assists) all chipped in with three points, while Alexa Lamplugh picked up her first career win in goal with 23 saves.

Neumann jumped all over the visiting Colonels in the opening period of play, outshooting Wilkes by a count of 17-3. Despite the large shot disparity, the Knights were only able to put one puck past the Colonel net-minder, as Brown scored to make it 1-0 Neumann headed into intermission.

The Knights' attack finally got into rhythm in the second stanza as the team scored four of the period's five goals to build a four goal lead. Schneider led Neumann in the period with two goals and an assist in the frame, while Brown and Syd Ladwig also tallied for the Knights. The hosts were outshot 15-12 in the frame but solid goaltending from Lamplugh held Wilkes to just one marker of their own as Neumann took a 5-1 lead into the third.

The final frame was full of back and forth action, but the Knights were able to hold on to their four goal cushion. Wilkes tallied twice in the period, but Neumann answered back with a pair of their own to seal the 7-3 win. Brown finished off her hat-trick at the 5:46 mark of the period, followed by a goal from Angeline Taiariol to cap the scoring on the day for the Knights.

Neumann (1-4-0, 0-2-0 UCHC) will return to the ice next Friday, November 16th for a home matchup with conference rival Utica College. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
