Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Late Goals Doom Knights in Loss to King's

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team let a late lead slip away on Friday evening, dropping a 2-1 result to visiting King's College in United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.

Cullen Chin scored for the Knights in the loss, while goalie Mike Cosentino made 27 saves.

An evenly played first period remained scoreless for much of the frame as both net-minders were sharp early on. Neumann out-shot the Monarchs by a count of 11-10 and found the game's first goal with under five minutes remaining in the period. A Zac Boyle shot from the slot was redirected in front of the net by Chin and behind the King's goalie to put the hosts up 1-0 heading to intermission.

The second period would see plenty of chances, but neither team could capitalize on them. Most of the play was in the Monarchs zone throughout the stanza, but despite 17 shots in the frame, Neumann continued to lead by just one.

The Knights continued to dominate the shot count in the final period of play, but would rue their missed opportunities midway through the frame. King's took advantage of one of their few chances in the period, scoring on a breakaway to level the contest at 1-1 with 8:39 left to play. The late goal lifted up the Monarchs, who used the momentum from tying the game to continue to apply pressure in the Neumann end. Just six minutes after the equalizing marker, King's found the back of the net again to take a 2-1 lead with under three minutes left to go. The Knights responded with a flurry of late chances in the game's final two minutes, but solid defending from the Monarchs kept the scoreline at 2-1 and gave the visitors their first win in program history.

Neumann (0-8-2, 0-4-2 UCHC) will look to rebound tomorrow when it faces Wilkes University in another UCHC contest. Puck-drop is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
