ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell late to Marymount University on Saturday afternoon in the Atlantic East Conference opening game.
Chelsea Keebler hit three three-pointers and led the Knights with 13 points on the afternoon.
Minika Glenn added 12 points and
Mariah Maciejewski tallied 10.
With three minutes left in the first quarter, the Knights took a 10-10 score and ended the first 10 minutes on a 7-2 run for a 17-12 advantage.
The Saints scored the first 10 points of the second quarter for a 22-17 lead. Keebler hit one of her three-pointers to put the Knights on the board in the second. The Saints answered with a basket before the teams went on a two minutes drought. Keebler hit a jumper to break the drought. Glenn ended the half with a layup, but the Saints took a 28-24 lead at the break.
Midway through the third quarter, the teams were knotted at 32. The Knights went on a 6-0 run and end the quarter with a 10-5 run for a 42-37 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Knights held a lead until midway through the fourth when the score was tied again, this time at 46. The teams traded baskets and remained tied, 51-51, with two minutes left in regulation. The Saints hit a layup and a free throw for the lead. Marymount sealed the win with two more free throws in the final minute for the 56-51 final.
Neumann (4-3, 1-0 Atlantic East) will hit the road for the next two games. The Knights will head to Susquehanna on Wednesday for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
