SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team got back into the win column, 78-71, with a strong fourth quarter at Susquehanna University on Wednesday evening.
Nafisa Saunders led the Knights with 21 points, including going 11-for-12 on free throws.
Mariah Maciejewski netted 16 points and nine boards.
Minika Glenn tallied 12 points and six steals.
The first three quarters remained close and featured 13 lead changed and 10 tied scores. Neumann held the largest lead of nine, 40-31, early in the third quarter. The Knights took a 51-50 lead into the fourth quarter as
Lauren Leicht connected on a layup just before the buzzer.
Glenn opened the third quarter with a layup. The River Hawks answered with a three to tie the game. Maciejewski then scores six consecutive points to put the Knights up 59-53. With one minute left in regulation, Susquehanna hit a three-pointer for a 70-63 Neumann advantage. The River Hawks kept fouling the Knights and hit a couple three-pointers in the final minute of play, but Neumann 8-for-8 from the free throw line to prevent the comeback and seal the win.
Neumann (5-3) will head to Penn State-Abington on Saturday for non-conference action beginning at 1:00 PM.
